I’m plan on posting an entry later today, but for now, I’d like to make two announcements:

1) I’ve got a new page, “Now Reading” created from my Shelfari account. If you’d like me to add others you wish to recommend, just give me a holler!

2) I’d like to expand my reach with another article. If you’d like to make recommendations for topics, I’m all ears. I’ll submit the article to Huffpo (and I won’t read the comments, I promise) and perhaps other online sources. Feel free to recommend those too!

Perhaps an article on “lessons from the other side”.
a synopsis of Erik’s best pearls of wisdom

      Ooo, I like that!

    Hi Elisa,

In regards to your question of what your next article should be, I have a suggestion. I noticed that in your last article to the Huffington Post you were unfairly judged for your work with channelers.

I think that if you could write about how you have had to reconcile your strong science foundation as a medical doctor with the idea of channeling, it would be more revealing and perhaps help those who just don’t understand. Don’t be defensive. Just explain it in simple words so that people may have a greater understanding. I would even be interested in an article like that.

By the way, I was extremely impressed how you handled the very unfair judgments made about you on the Huff Post. You were kind and demonstrated compassion that just melted my heart. What a wonderful example to set for the world.

In regards to your first question, what’s your Shelfari account?

    Pat

Great idea! Maybe it could be entitled something along the lines of a skeptic converted/transformed. As far as my Shelfari account, my user name is emedhus@gmail.com. You can give me titles and I can plug them into the bookshelf. Does it work when you open the Now Reading page?

  • Skoshi

    Good morning, Elisa. : D

The “Now Reading” section sounds wonderful. How do I access it?

Regarding a Huffpost article, there are so many topics worth your time and readers’ attention that I hesitate to suggest Reiki, but I’m going to. As a person who has drug allergies, chemical sensitivities, asthma and multiple birth defects, I welcome any EFFECTIVE treatment that avoids meds. I figure I have to limit the use of the few antibiotics I can still take to times when I REALLY have no other solutions, as the list of drug allergies keeps growing. I also find, once I’m experiencing adverse side effects and get around to reading the inserts that come with the prescriptions, that if there’s a negative side effect, I invariably experience it. A lot more people seem to be finding themselves in the same situation and are probably searching for help their bodies can tolerate.

NIH funded research has proven that acupuncture, meditation, massage, and hypnosis work for some things. I have found that acupuncture and massage temporarily help some things whereas Reiki HEALS things. I’ve also found that acupuncture HEALS some things. NIH also has information on its web site about Reiki that I think you’ll find valuable:

    http://search2.google.cit.nih.gov/search?site=NIH_Master&client=NIHNEW_frontend&proxystylesheet=NIHNEW_frontend&output=xml_no_dtd&filter=0&getfields=*&q=Reiki&btnG.x=16&btnG.y=19

Gabriel Cousens, MD and Reiki Master, wrote the Foreward to Paula Horan’s book, “Empowerment through Reiki: The path to personal and global transformation”. Dr. Cousens says Paula Horan’s “understanding is synchronous with [mine] which is that we are composed of more solid energy fields, which we call the physical body and less dense fields, which I call subtle organizing energy fields (SOEFs). These SOEFs are moving faster than the speed of light and also simultaneously slower than the speed of light, reflecting the multidimensionality of the human condition. These SOEFs act as vortexes for the faster than the speed of light cosmic energy to come into the body, which is slower than the speed of light dimension, and also act as templates for the structure and function of the emotional, mental, and physical body. On the physical level, when these SOEFs are filled with energy they become well organized. As part of a step down template phenomena, they create a well organized DNA/RNA system, which in turn creates well functioning enzymes, protein synthesis, and cell division. When the cells divide and function well, then the glands, organs, and tissues function well and we have health.” Paula, of course, writes for the average reader(LOL), but I knew with your medical background and knowleged of physics, you could appreciate Dr. Cousens’ hypothesis.

Paula says universal energy passes through the Reiki Master into the one receiving the treatment, and the one who is receiving the treatment decides (subconsciously) how much energy to draw and where in the body to send the energy. The Reiki Master is not drained by the treatment, and actually becomes energized because the person being treated will not use all of the energy that’s forthcoming. It is important for those who want to do Reiki to have been treated by a Reiki Master first so all of their chakras and energy pathways are cleared and can function to allow the passage of energy. We all get energy blockages and develop areas of stagnant energy, so it’s important for Reiki Masters to continue to do Reiki on themselves or have another Reiki Master do treatments for them from time to time.

I’ve been searching for solutions; things that will get at the ROOT of problems. Not salve that will merely give temporary relief, as important as that sometimes is. I’ve found that when some people reach a certain level of illness or pain, they cannot spend time on spiritual growth. Meditation and Reiki aid physical AND spiritual health.

By the way, Paula’s book also gives a brief history of Reiki, which is quite interesting. The book is only 150 pages, including many diagrams and charts so it is a quick read. I got into it again last night since I haven’t read it in years and wanted to be able to be whole-hearted in my recommendation. Now I have 6 books going at once, but they all have such valuable information. Wish I could just do a “mind meld”! : D

At this point, I don’t think I’m qualified to write an article on Reiki, although I’m a true believer. You should write about it!! I’m finished with the book, Biology of Belief. Let me know if you want me to send it to you. If so, just pass it around to others. I don’t need to keep it.

On the Now Reading: do you see a page tab at the top of the site? If you click on it, it should open to a bookshelf from my Shelfari account. It works for me, but sometimes I find out that something works for the blog admin but not for anyone else. Can you let me know?

  • mom2bzs

Wow Shoski, I loved reading all you wrote about reiki! Wonderful stuff! As I’ve previously said, I’m a reiki 2 practitioner. I’m wanting to take a reiki 3 class next month. I did Actualism, which is energy lightwork classes years ago (20 plus) and then went to a medium/psychic a couple of years ago who contacted my lightwork teacher who had passed and she told me to do reiki. I met my friend and reiki teacher/master a week after that. Reiki is so incredible! I was honored to send Elisa reiki long distance a couple of weeks ago. I do reiki on myself at least once a day, if not more. It has made such a difference in my life. My teacher sometimes works with an organization that gives women reiki while they’re getting chemotherapy. Also, my teacher has a reiki circle once a month at a spiritual center. All of us practitioners give reiki to people who attend and each other. It’s so wonderful, the room is literally filled with reiki energy. Its incredible! After we all do reiki on each other, we have amazing spiritual discussions. Wish you could be there Skoshi!

Elisa….yes your bookshelf opens up once I click on the “Now Reading”at the top….very cool!

I will send you some ideas as to books…great idea.

P.S. Where do you find time to read books? lol

    • http://drmedhus.com Elisa

It ain’t easy, girl! I have to speed read before I collapse. ;-)

  • Skoshi

mom2bzs, I wish I could be there too! My Reiki Master and I used to live in the same small Village. She did weekly group Reiki sessions (Heart Sessions they called them) with another woman who was new to Reiki for only $15 per person…just enough to pay the rent on the room and supplies they used (tea afterwards, etc.). It was so incredible to see a Reiki’s beneficial impact on a group! My Reiki Master sometimes teaches at Omega Institute in Reinbeck, NY, as does Brett Bevell, a friend of her’s for many years. I’m now working through his advanced Reiki book “Reiki for Spiritual Healing”. I don’t recommend it to those who don’t know about Reiki, but I bet you would get a lot out of it. It is Reiki work FOR Reiki Masters to do on themselves. It has a chapter on Runes that Elisa might like to read, given her husband’s name!
    : D

  • Skoshi

Excellent, Elisa! I did get into it. Thank you. i’ve read most of those books. Would love to read Biology of Belief if you would send it to me.

I still haven’t been able to get into the Forum. I worry about misusing your blog by writing so much. Some time when I’m with my daughter-in-law and have my computer, I’ll ask her to see if she can get into the Forum for me. She’s so much more computer savvy than I am.

I’ll ask my Guides if I should try to write an article for HuffPost. : D

mom2bzs, you know the history of Reiki? (I hope I do this VERY brief synopsis justice!) In the mid-19th Century, Dr. Mikao Usui, in Japan, was a Christian. He became Dean of a Christian seminary. His students said, “Jesus healed people and told his followers they would do even greater miracles than he did; teach us how to heal.” This sent him on a quest of many years, to many countries (Paula Horan gives more detail in her book), studying many religions, languages (such as Sanskrit) at many institutions of higher learning (including the University of Chicago), and studying many texts in their original languages. Tibetan scrolls document the travels of “St. Isa”, whom many believe is Jesus. Dr. Usui discovered Reiki in the Tibetan Lotus Sutra. He believed he found the intellectual information about how Jesus performed miracles. He thereafter had an incredible spiritual experience whereby is energy was freed up and he began teaching Reiki in Japan. He had one student, Dr. Hayashi, a retired naval officer, who started a Reiki school in Japan and taught a woman named Takata, who ended up bringing Reiki to the US. Dr. Hayashi gained great spiritual insight and foresaw the World War and that Japan would lose. In the late 1930s, he dressed in full ceremonial dress and announced to his friends announced that he was ready to leave. He then transitioned to the unfettered life. The Dalai Lama says many spiritually evolved people can live very full, long lives and, as elderly people, decide it is time to transition, and just leave painlessly while meditating. Apparently it isn’t uncommmon in Buddhist monasteries. I’m hoping that for all of us! No leaving at 68 from illness, Elisa! There’s too much love here for you to go. – Namaste! XO

    • http://drmedhus.com Elisa

This is all very interesting Skoshi, and you BETTER not cut down on your writing, because I’m learning so much from you! I’m not sure why you can’t get to the forums. I know I’ve been getting emails to moderate topics and replies, but I’m so technically primitive…

You know, when I was daydreaming about Erik and the dragonflies a couple of days ago, I could see the entire universe as a sea of brilliant energy, everything from rocks and trees to humans and insects. And it was nearly impossible to tell where one entity’s energy stopped and the other entity’s began. It’s like there was a constant exchange or flow of energy everywhere. Anyway, in my mind’s eye, I could see Erik’s energy too. His hands were cupped and he was pushing and pulling the energy of the dragonfly from one place to another, all in and of this sea of energy.

One last thing: Expect a Reiki request when I’m close to 68!

  • Nora

Yippeeeee, Elisa! I love “Now Reading”. I’m currently reading “Home With God” by Neale Donald Walsch, which I think I heard about from you or another reader? Anyway, it is an amazing book. I see some favorites on the bookshelf and lots of others I didn’t know about. Great idea!

    • http://drmedhus.com Elisa

      I aim to please, ma’am!

  • Skoshi

Wow-weee! That was a fabulous experience, Elisa! I’m so happy for you. Your guides must have felt like you needed this experience. It will strengthen you many times in the coming years. It’s the kind of experience that Adyashanti describes in “Spontaneous Awakening”:

    http://www.amazon.com/Spontaneous-Awakening-Adyashanti/dp/1591792916/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1281822060&sr=1-1

And the way Eckhart Tolle describes his “awakening” in his many books and lectures. You’ll reflect on this over time, I’m sure, and become more and more grateful for the experience. You’ve gotten a glimpse of how things “are” without the blinders of our physicality. I think we have to agree to a common view of reality in order to function in this world, and babies, who have just come into the fettered world, have to succeed in forgetting how things really are in order to learn the lessons they’ve come here to learn. We really are One, and, though time is something we create in this life to enable us to learn lessons and function, there really is no “time” as we understand it. Einstein DIDN’T prove there is time. He was working toward a Unified Explanation of Everything, and got bogged down and frustrated after E=MC2. Some physicists think he actually set science behind 100 years, and string theory is much closer to describing reality. they say we should think in terms of “spacetime” NOT “space” AND “time”. Delores Cannon, if you continue on and read all her books, regresses people who claim to have experienced being “water” and “stone” and various animals…just because we like to have experiences. We’re curious about everything and want to experience everything. Because of “spacetime”, Reiki can benefit past AND future lives. How wonderful! Have I gone off on a tangent?! – XO

    • http://drmedhus.com Elisa

You kiddin’ me? I love your tangents. You know my experience sort of reminded me of when Neo finally saw through the artificial reality on the Matrix: remember that? He say everything in 0s and 1s. It’s like I imagined what it was like to pierce that thin veils between dimensions. If only I could rip it away.

  • mom2bzs

    Skoshi,

Thanks for the great detail in the story of Dr. Makao Usui. That was fascinating! My Reiki Master/Teacher has told me an abbreviated story. Its amazing to think I could be using the same divine energy as Jesus, as I don’t consider myself even near that evolved spiritually. But as you reminded us “Jesus healed people and told his followers they would do even greater miracles than he did”. I just feel honored to have the energy channeled through me.

    Sherry

  • Lidian

ooohhh – i love the new bookshelf! Very snazzy. May i recommend Biocentrism by Robert Lanza? Found it on Huffington Post!
Funny you mention the Matrix, the more i learn about this “reality” the more i’m convinced that this place is one!!!

  • Skoshi

It IS all the same energy. That’s all there is. Loving, intelligent energy. You know, once you know something about Eastern thought and philosophy, it really strikes you when you read the gospels that a LOT of what Jesus is supposed to have said is Eastern. Many believe that from 12 to 30 he was in the East being taught. Cannon’s book about Jesus and the Essenes says they were together and did incredible things. Fascinating reading!

  • Ingrid

Wow, Skoshi, I am loving all this Reiki info!! Can you recommend a book for beginners on what it’s all about? I have always believed we are all energy, we are all connected and our perceptions create our reality. I would love to learn how to properly utilize energy in the most positive way to benefit myself and others. I have a problem with anxiety and it can be really hard for me to deal with, so having something to relieve this “pain” every day sounds like a dream come true to me!:)

  • mom2bzs

    Ingrid,

Reiki is GREAT for anxiety! When I’m stressed about something, reiki immediately relieves my anxiety about it. I too have struggled with anxiety.

    Sherry

  • Ingrid

Wow, Sherry! That is so great to know!! I har been taking an anti-depressant for the past 8 years or so, and although it helps a little bit, it definitely does not get rid of my anxiety completely. I think it actually brings me down a little too much and suppresses my “artistic” side. So to find something “au natural” would be just so great! I want to be able to overcome my anxiety without the help of a drug (even though I am not opposed to them and think there are people who do need them), I just think I can do it on my own if I just know how. I can’t wait to start reading and learning about reiki and eventually use it on myself!!

  • Skoshi

Ingrid, a great beginners book is Paula Horan’s “Empowerment through Reiki: the path to personal and global transformation.” I’ve found Reiki is great for anxiety. And I can cure a headache in a fraction of a second and stop pain in seconds. I’ve been going to Physical Therapy for my damaged knees, and it is slowly working, but I love it that as soon as I had pain, I could do Reiki and in a minute or two, no pain! It’s a lot easier to work on building muscle without pain than with it. If I am sore after hard physical work, I do Reiki and the pain is gone. I guess it’s reducing inflamation. I say “I”, but of course it isn’t “I”, it’s the Universe very generously, freely supplying what’s needed. We’re all capable of doing Reiki, we just don’t all know it. Reiki cured my dog’s poison ivy in a matter of minutes! Amazed me. He had very nasty oozing blisters, and his little pink belly was red! Astounding to finish a Reiki session and look down at healthy, pink flesh! I especially love it when I see Reiki results on pets and infants, because no one can say it’s just a placebo effect. They’re oblivious! LOL. I used to go to an MD in Fairfax, VA who does acupuncture and stroke/accident rehab. A person can go into his office on crutches with a sprained ankle that’s as big as a baseball and walk out with his ankle normal-sized. He cured my carpal tunnel. I wish I had known about Reiki then, though. Could have done it at home for free and without needles!

  • mom2bzs

Ingrid, I too used to take anti-depressants. I stopped when I started doing reiki. At times the anti-depressants would bring me too far down too. I had to stop taking them, as they started making me feel worse.

Skoshi, My golden retriever loves to curl up beside me when I do reiki on myself. How cool that you could heal your dog’s poison ivy!

    Sherry

  • Ingrid

Wow, I will get that book asap!! I am so excited to know I can do something about my anxiety without using these anti-depressants!! And I have two cats, who are the little loves of my life:) So I’m also excited to know they can benefit from reiki too!! Thanks, ladies!! Xo

  • lidian

I have an idea for an article that has been percolating in my head for a couple of days. How the internet is changing/illuminating the concept of channeling. Muses and propheceers have been around for ever. But they weren’t easy to get to! Suddenly this has all changed, and in our lifetime. What does the new ability to literally embrace and feel the truth of an afterlife mean to us humans? How will that affect traditional religion (i’m sure you’d get comments you wouldn’t want to read on this issue!!). This could bring up all kinds of questions/answers for an interesting discussion…
    Lidian

    • http://drmedhus.com Elisa

Great idea, Lidian. I never thought about it, but you’re right! Spirituality, like most topics, has spread to a much broader audience in this, the Digital Age, including information about the quantum aspects, anecdotal information about NDEs and OBEs, Reiki, etc. Brilliant!
