I ran across this YouTube video. It gave me pause. Many people struggle in life. Some choose to stay and fight. Some, like my Erik, choose to give up. Oh how I wish he had seen this before he made that fateful decision. It makes me sad and angry. If you are considering ending your life, please watch this first. It might just change your mind.

    Hello Elisa,

Thanks for sharing this. I couldn’t help but cry. It’s a wonderful story. It is true, there is always someone out there that has it at least a little bit harder than you do. Does that mean you are not allowed to let things get you down? No, your feelings are your feelings. But the story for me, says that if this man can get up and keep going, I think I can too. Thanks again for sharing this Elisa. :)

Yeah, it made me want to keep trying too, even if things seem so bleak at times. I wish Erik had not given up. Miss you Stanley!

So true. Where did you get all of your wisdom, Tom?

    Hi Elisa,
I have had this kind of thing rambling around in my head for quite a while. Sure we all have our challenges, and life isn’t easy. There is always something that comes up and messes things up and makes things more difficult. My way of dealing with it is to do what Dr.Wayne Dyer and others recommend, and to have an “attitude of gratitude” no matter what. There is so much that we take for granted and don’t notice in our daily lives. So much beauty and simple yet amazing things all around us. Stop and look at the clouds, or wonder about the structure and beauty of flowers, and wonder about birds flying, or just enjoy the gift of a pretty sunset. Its all free, and one of the benefits of being on this wonderful planet.
Yes life is hard, and difficult, but there is always someone who has more problems than we do. I am grateful that I have a roof over my head, and food to eat, because there are people who DON’T have that. The homeless guy sleeping on the bench, or the one digging through the trash for something to eat, I know it could be worse.
This is what keeps me going, I have a warm bed and other things that others may not have…and I am very thankful for them. I look at flowers (smell the roses) and appreciate the gifts of beauty all around me, all free and there for the taking.
It took me a long time to get to this point, and sometimes I forget, and get distracted with other things in life, but as always, something brings me back…like posts like this, as a reminder that I need to get back to my center and have that gratitude for what I have….and not think about what I don’t have or ‘wish’ I had. As Erik said, sometimes we wish for something we are not even SUPPOSED to have, but have to look at and be grateful what what is already present and real.
Thank you for posting this, because as your video illustrates, there is always someone else who is worse off….yet has appreciation for what they have, make the best of what they do have, and who is happy! =D
    This guy is amazing!

I don’t know…I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled when I was around 18, so it couldn’t be that!! =P

Like I said, teachers like Wayne Dyer and other ‘spiritual’ teachers and students of alternate ways of thinking and perception have helped a lot. Buddhism and ancient thinking that is still relevant today, and available in books and web sites all pretty much state the same thing. The road to happiness is through the simple things. Looking at what YOU have, and being thankful for it is the only way to go. Whining about what you ‘DON’T” have or what someone else has…just leads to unhappiness.
To quote Yoda from ‘Star wars” ….” that is why you fail”…
happiness comes from within, not from with out (outside) fulfill yourself and lead a happy life.
    Any other way accomplishes nothing.
    Hope this helps! =D
